Adding the PPA seems to fail

Post by vdaele »

When executing the following command on Lniux Mint 17.3

Code: Select all

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dwrj87/mmex-test
I get

Code: Select all

Cannot add PPA: 'No JSON object could be decoded'.
Any clues? Alternative installation options?

Thanks in advance,

Marc

I'm having this problem too. Using Linux Mint 18, and also Makulu Linux.:?: A pity because I really like mmex.

Success!!:D What I did was find and save the address of the PPA (https://launchpad.net/~dwrj87/+archive/ubuntu/mmex-test) , then open synapticand go to settings, repositories, add a new repository, and paste the PPA address. Then - sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mmex.   And whacko the diddleyo, Halleluia,   MMEX is now installed.

Hello.
I've the same problem trying to install MMex on my new Mint 18 (over a laptop older than me).
Could it be a 'distro' bug?

Help us, please.

I had the same problem, but was eventually successful in Mint 18 by opening ‘repositories’ in Synaptic. Open 'settings', then ‘additional repositories'. Open ‘add new repository. Copy this web site - https://launchpad.net/~dwrj87/+archive/ubuntu/mmex-test, and paste into the box for the
added repository, and click on OK. Then run the following two commands in a terminal.
   sudo apt-get install python-software-properties   sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mmex

Later:- Tried the same unsuccessfully in Makulu Linux. So copied the mmex entry from /etc/apt/sources.list.d in Mint, and pasted into the same file in Makulu. Synaptic then found mmex, but wouldn't install because of missing dependencies (libwxbase3.0-0v5 & libwxgtk-webview3.0-0v5). After finding and installing them, I was finally successful in installing MMEX in Makulu. Now I'm a happy chappy. :D

Yes I have the same problem, upgraded from Mint 17.3, where it worked really well to Mint 18 and now I cannot install it, spent hours trying and searching for solutions.

I cannot add the PPA as suggested by Petrus1928.

Any assistance greatly appreciated by anyone! If this does not work I will have to consider downgrading back to 17.3 or perhaps use the portable option (if it works in Linux?)

I tried again using Petrus 1928's idea, it ended up breaking/stopping the update manager!

I also use Grisbi, which works. I wanted to move over totally to MMEX as it integrates with android really well, but if I am unable to use it in Linux then my best option is just to use Grisbi, take a screen shot of the home screen in Grisbi and send that to my phone, this will at least let me know what the state of play is on my accounts at any given time, far from perfect.

As there has been no response here I suspect there is limited support for Linux from the MMex team due to limited uptake? Shame really.
