I don't understand the question.
In case if you want to change multy transaction category this feature is available in development version.

It's available as daily build http://www.moneymanagerex.org/download

many of my imported transaction have been stored as category "A" which in fact is not a payment but a transfer to an asset account!

I found the nightly which opens my existing database.

But the multiple edit of withdrawal CAN NOT change my transaction from payment to transfer to a different account

(which can be done in a SINGLE withdrawal)

It can change only withdrawal to transfer in case if in other account a deposit transaction present with the same parameters.
But you can change multy transactions category.
Sorry, it seems misunderstanding.

I am trying to migrate from jGnash.

Now I am stuck to change a lot of imported withdrawals (in a certain category) to an asset.

with a SINGLE Withdrawal I can change the payment to a transfer. This is NOT possible when I select serveral withdrawals...

Anyway: I would like to import the whole XML-Database from jGnash, but this will not be possible I suppose...

Also I suggesy the next trick.
Export all (or just needed) transactions to separate csv or qif file. Then import it to asset account. Then change type of them from withdrawal to deposit.
Now back to original withdrawals, select them then edit and change type to withdrawal. (Only for v 1.4.0)
