Can't add ppa

Trying to install MMEX in an Ubuntu derivative (Linux Lite) using the instructions to add a ppa.
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dwrj87/mmex-test
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mmex
On step 2 I entered: $ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:dwrj87/mmex-test
with this result - "Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:~dwrj87/ubuntu/mmex-test'.
ERROR: '~dwrj87' user or team does not exist.
How can I overcome this
