Buy and Sell Stocks

The Stocks Report Summary simply adds the number of shares for a given stock and ignores whether a buy or sell.
Similarly, when you look at the stock portfolio, it likewise appears to simply add the number of shares ignoring the buy / sell.
If you view the individual stock transactions then you can see they are either a buy or sell (under trade type), but the trade type appears to be ignored on the stock portfolio screen which shows the total amount invested which treats buy and sell as the same. Also in the cash ledger it similarly shows the total ignoring whether a buy or sell.

Is this the expected behaviour?
