Lack of space after Colons

I realise that in programming, there's no space after a colon, but in English, there should be.
This is because it makes it much easier to read.
Lack of a space makes it harder ...
Its a bit like constructing a sentence without spaces between words. You can probably work out what the sentence says, but its a lot more effort.
Can we get a space please?
