I updated to version 1.7.0 a few days ago.

Today I thoughtlessly rebooted my Windows 10 machine while MMEX was running.

Now, when I start MMEX it advises me that the database is marked as opened by another instance of MMEX. When I elect to "continue to open this database?" MMEX display the summary page for a few seconds and then disappears.

I thought we had left this problem behind several releases ago!

If I cannot fix this problem, I will need to restore the database from last night's backup and then re-enter all today's transactions.

Don't you just love computers!

How did you restart the computer, with Restart or switch off the power?

before using the backup:
Would recommend you to delete the file mmexini.db3.
with Everything https://www.voidtools.com/ you can find this file.

In answer to your question: I powered down because I needed to check some cabling. Yes, I know I was stupid not to close MMEX before I did so.

Unfortunately deleting mmexini.db3 hasn't cured the problem (but I will keep Everything for future use).

on which storage medium is the .mmb stored.
local disc, USB disc/stick, cloud?

It's on my D Drive, which came pre-installed on the computer all those years ago.

I've now recovered last night's backup. but it still won't work, even with mmexini.db3 deleted.

The problem is rapidly moving from being an inconvenience to being a disaster!

I tried this, without success.

My latest plan is to restore the database to the pre 1.7.0 version and try and access that from another computer using the pre 1.7.0 software. I'll try that tomorrow (unless one of us comes up with a better idea before then).

an alternative would be to send the .mmb to mmex-reg@bluewin.ch and I look at this
