New to MMEX, transitioning from a very outdate MS Money. I am running the Mac version of MMEX.
In Money, I have an account where I only really track the monthly balance, basically just an asset account. In Money, I can just click a button to update the current balance, and it will calculate the debit/credit transaction to bring it to that amount. Is there a way of doing this with MMEX? I've created the account as an asset account, but it behaves exactly like any other cash or chequing account. On the features section of the MMEX site, under Assets, the description does not match what I'm seeing in the Mac version. Am I missing something? My Edit Account screen for an asset is identical to that of a cash or chequing account. As a workaround, I guess I can calculate the debit/credit and enter that as a transaction.

Any more details and what you exactly expect?

Hmmm Isn't that a process as "Account reconciliation"? It will calculate your reconciliated balance on the main page.

Reconciling is a different thing. What I'm looking for is a way of updating the value of an asset without having to calculate it myself. In MS Money, for an asset, you can simply click a button that says "Update current value". You then enter the current value, and it calculates the credit/debit required from the last update to set the account to the current value. I can accomplish this in MMEX, but I have to calculate the credit/debit myself in order to get the asset account to the current value. Much easier if I enter the information I have, which is the current value, and don't have to perform a calculation that the software could more easily do.

It has a simple revaluation model based on a rate per period. here you go the example one. with the latest development build, this market (not recognized) value would also be displayed in its account view.

Manual revaluation is still needed and TBD.

And in theory, you have a sell (entirely or partially) to recognize the market value, correct?

OK, thanks. I had not fully realized how to create an asset, as I thought that the asset account was the asset (to be honest, it's rather confusing how MMEX does it). Now that I have an asset, I can adjust the current value by editing the asset, works fine. The one thing I can't seem to find, though, is a way of viewing the value of the asset over time. Once adjusted, is there any history of previous values? If it was adding a transaction to adjust the value by the swing, then the history would be there in a transaction list.

It isn't very clear since the Asset Name and Asset Account Name link them.
Here you go what an orphan asset looks like (no corresponding Asset Account under Assets on the left). btw, there are a few important refinements on the development build, they can facilitate a lot to track your assets with MMEX. all operations would be tracked and viewed in its linked Asset Account.
this is a revaluation example.

I am not sure to be able to decide and define these business rules, so that is why I am trying to provide documentation about this dialog on investments transactions on other similar software. Some days I sent the GnuCash help info, and now please look into MechCad's AceMoney online help here: https://www.mechcad.net/acemoney-faq/#investments0
(BTW there is a Mac version https://www.mechcad.net/downloads/ with example file to try investments operations)

There are more options on the "investment transactions". I am not a very expert, but I would expect all software to work similar.
I think it is worthwhile to try and play with AceMoneyLite (free version) on its operations with investments, but those ops are beyond the scope of MMEX, AFAIK.

Thanks @MlinMMEX for providing this though it is more about Investment than Asset.

1. GunCash is too complicated to follow, e.g. double-entry
2. AceMoney, based on the document you posted, I think MMEX would play a little bit better, e.g. how to add a stock with some cost base.

Anyway, i like AceMoney's document. super great if you could try mmex with your scenarios and output something.
