MMEX crashes opening datatbase

MMEX 1.91 on linux mint 22.2 was working OK yesterday, now refuses to open a database correctly. Error:

Attempting to open a database that has been marked as opened by another instance of MMEX.
To avoid data loss or conflict, it's strongly recommended that you close all other applications that may be using the database.

If nothing else is running, it's possible th

at the database was left open as a result of a crash during previous usage of MMEX.

Do you want to open the database?

If I click YES it opens in a sort of read only mode (even the menu bar greyed out) and then crashes, taking linux with it. The weird thing is, even backup copies from a weeek ago and also from a month ago (which were working OK when backed up) give the same error.

I installed MMEX on another linux laptop from the software manager, copied the database over, and got the same error!

HELP!!!!!

There is usually an error message; a screenshot would help us.

I'm away from the laptop just now, but the error message is in italics above (cut and pasted).

Thanks

screenshot attached.

ETA I've tried uninstalling MMEX and re-installing, but no joy.

Thank you, you have already described this error message, which is normal when MMEX crashes. The database then remains open and this must be confirmed.
I assume that when MMEX crashes, an error message is displayed and this would help us further.

Sorry forgot that one:

ETA I submitted a debug report yesterday and just now. I can't view or open it.

Thank you.
I assume that an error message is displayed before this message, and this would help us further.

Question: Have you recently switched to a new version of MMEX?

Alternative: You can send the .mmb file to info@mmex.ch and I will take a look at it.
Of course, I guarantee complete confidentiality of your data.

The first attachment I sent was the first error message, on trying to open the mmb file. The second attachment was the second error message that appears when the file is opened and then trying to open an account. Then mmex crashes.

Question: Have you recently switched to a new version of MMEX?

I think yes, updated to the latest version in October using Mint's update mgr. I am away from the laptop again, so can't check the exact date.

Sorry, I am the unpaid system admin for my wife's laptop. Given the contents of the file there is no way she would allow that.

Oh yes, I am the unpaid administrator of MMEX and would like to help you, but I need more information to do so.

You can also search for similar problems here in the forum and at https://github.com/moneymanagerex/money ... dated-desc.

Hi I'm sorry if I came across as ungrateful that wasn't my intention. I really am grateful for any help I can get.

I have had a play around.

1. Renamed mmexini.db3 from ~mmex to something else to fool mmex into thinking it had started from fresh.
2. Started a new database called test and set up a test account.
3. Input a deposit and a withdrawal. All good so far, happy wife, happy life.
4. Exit mmex.
5. Made a copy of test.mmb to test(copy).mmb.
6. Open mmex again by clicking on test.mmb. Observe error (attached).

I will send a copy of test.mmb and test(copy).mmb to the email address above.

Many thanks!
