Lock Transactions

Could I lock transactions/rows so they don't change ?
My Goal: I want to create annual data bases, based upon the previous year, without creating an overall database.
To do this I would need to lock all results to previous transactions on a given date, then save off that year, before deleting it from the current database thus creating a new year start, without loosing any settings,
Example: on January the 1st, all transaction and balances are locked on that day, which is of course the previous years data. After saving this file off to say year2017.mmb any date prior to 1 January 2017 is deleted and data entry carries on for 2018 with the previous years totals data still intact and carried over onto the current year.
