Looking for some paid help with report generation

Post by themaniedn »

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Money Manager Ex for a while and i am looking to hire someone to help create some custom reports. I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I figured I’d check in case anyone has experience with this or can point me in the right direction.

I need reports tailored to specific financial metrics, and while I’m comfortable using the software, I need someone with the technical skills to customize or generate reports beyond the built-in options.

If this isn’t the right forum for this kind of request, does anyone know where I might find someone with the right expertise?
Thanks in advance!

thanks @themaniedn , and this would be the best place.
GRM has some flexibility with SQL(retrieve) + LUA (modification) + HTML(display).

can you
1. desc detailed requirements
2. share a sample database file

ahead of this, you can explore http://grm.moneymanagerex.org/ to see what data it would achieve.

My database has multiple currency accounts, which I realized are not properly reflected in the reports.

For example, I expect a report similar to the Income vs. Expenses - Monthly to group all income, convert each currency to the main database currency, and then display the totals. However, the report simply ignores the currencies and adds the numbers together. For instance, a deposit of 10 GBP, 20 USD, and 10 yuan would appear in the report as 40 instead of 34.01 USD.

this is not expected and might be due to your currency rates.
can you click the Currency Manager in the toolbar (with the USD symbol) and check your GBP and CNY exchange rates?

That is true; it turns out the problem was on my side all along. I will fix the currency issues and then explore the reports before reporting back. Thank you for your help.

You can check platforms like GitHub or Upwork to find freelancers with MMEX or XML/SQL expertise.

I compiled my thoughts and little experience with the app for the past couple of month into this review. I’ve tried several personal finance tools, including GnuCash, but I find MMEX to be far more enjoyable and practical for my needs. It’s simple, flexible, and does exactly what I need it to do—without the bloat or complexity. MMEX strikes a great balance between usability and powerful features, making it awesome for tracking expenses, managing multi currency accounts, and even handling budgets.
Compared to GnuCash, MMEX is much easier to navigate and configure, and it feels more tailored to real-world use. Features like batch selection and edits are plenty useful.
The only area where I think MMEX could improve is to provide a native UI, the current one feels a bit outdated and clunky on some platforms (macOS specially). A more modern, polished interface would go a long way in making it feel as powerful as it really is.

Still, MMEX is excellent at what it does, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, open-source money management tool.

thank you very much for the positive review of MMEX.
our developers are working hard to provide you with a user-friendly financial tool.
since the programming capacity is relatively small and MMEX is offered on many operating systems and in many languages, compromises had to be made in some places.
