Share Conversion & Reduction

Post by Karnak17 »

I have an investment which has been converted to a new name and a reduction in the number of shares held. Can anyone suggest how I can best do this alteration in my Money Exchange programme
e.g. Original Holding in Company ABC 3723 shares value £10061.10 now converted to 838 shares in company XYZ value £10491.76
I would be most grateful for any help or instruction.

If the value is the same, then I suppose you could do a transfer from the ABC share account to a new XYZ share account for the value of the shares in, but that doesn't account for the difference in value. I am not sure how you get a different value as a result of the change - where did the extra value come from? If that was a bonus, I would simply create a credit from the company in the new account for the difference. If it was a purchase price gain, then I would set the ABC share value at that before transferring the value to XYZ so that the account opens at the correct value, but it isn't very clean. There are a number of real issues like this that need to be looked into, such as the Glaxo/Haleon split, and companies delisting from the UK and moving to the EU or USA and relisting in a different currency. I think the latter can be handled by a simple transfer to the new company account with the Advanced flag set, but it ought to be documented somewhere in future.
